FAQ
The registration page references “some golf experience”, what if my child is a beginner?
In an effort to make teams fair and keep within the time allotments, we are requiring participants to have at least some experience playing the game. Having played an actual round of golf would be preferable, but even just visiting a driving range could be enough. At a minimum the child should be able to contact the ball most of the time they swing.
How are the teams being created?
A questionnaire assessment will be completed during the registration process to determine general skill/experience levels of the participants, and that data will then determine the groupings. The intention is to have similar mix of skill levels present on all teams for fair competition. An added benefit to having a mix of skill levels is the opportunity for less experienced players to learn from other players, and more experienced players to develop leadership skills.
Depending on the interest and demand, the assessment process and league structure may change in the future to accommodate different league tiers based on skill/experience (A League, and B league for example.)
Who are the volunteer coaches?
Our volunteer coaches are parents of the players looking to support and create a safe environment for games and practices. The coaches don’t need to be golf experts; they are there to guide and encourage the team. Team Golf will support the coaches by providing info on league rules, game format, general strategy, and guidance on how to structure practices.
Are the teams Co-ed?
We are hoping there will be enough interest to have separate leagues for girls and boys, but ultimately this is dependent on the representation of sign-ups.
Can my child sign up with a friend, or submit a team?
During registration you may put down one name of another player that your child would prefer to play with. We will try our best to accommodate the request, but the priority will always be to create the fairest groupings for competition.
Is this league recreational, competitive or both?
The league is aiming to provide a similar level of competition to other community team sports. It’s competitive, but there is also an emphasis on sportsmanship, improving at the game, and socializing with other junior golfers.
In the future we may consider more casual/recreational leagues and events, but this would likely be aimed more towards beginners.
What happens when a session is canceled?
Depending on the locations chosen it may be possible for sessions/games to be cancelled due to things like cold weather. The priority will be to reschedule the practice or game at the same facility, but in extreme cases we may look to temporarily relocate.
Who supervises the players during sessions and games?
The bulk of the supervising will be done by volunteer coaches (parents). Each team should have at least 2 volunteer coaches registered to ensure practices and games can be attended. If no coaches are available, a representative from TeamGolf may fill in. In extreme cases, rescheduling may be the only option.
How is TeamGolf different from golf camps or lessons?
TeamGolf is a 3-month competitive league with set teams coming together weekly for games and practices. Golf Camps and lessons are typically just a single day, or a few days, focused primarily on practice.
